Added to the games in Generation 6, Fairy is the most recent type to make its way to the Pokémon series. Now, as Generation 9 has rolled around, Fairy has cemented its status as a strong type and a valuable addition to any trainer’s line-up.
With a number of Fairy-type Pokémon available for capture throughout the Paldea region, it’s important to have a good understanding of their type match-ups. Here are all of the weaknesses of Fairy-type Pokémon in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
All Fairy-type weaknesses in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet
Fairy-types tend to be bulky, as they boast the highest average Special Defense stat of any type. Of course, they tend to be a bit worse when it comes to Defense. The same is true offensively, as the average Fairy-type has better Special Attack than Attack.
As the latest addition to the Pokémon franchise, Fairy largely exists for balancing reasons. As a result, it is weak to types that previously were not particularly strong offensively. Fortunately for Fairy-type Pokémon, this only results in them having two weaknesses in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet: Poison and Steel.
Similarly, Fairy deals not very effective damage against Poison, Steel and Fire-types. On the flip side, Fairy hits Dark, Dragon and Fighting-types for super effective damage and resists Bug, Dark and Fighting. As a result, Fairy-types act as strong counters to these types of Pokémon.
Fairy-types to catch in Paldea
Early on in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, players can come across a number of useful Fairy-types. These include returning favorites like Ralts and Azurill, which can later become Gardevoir and Azumarill, respectively. There’s also the new addition Fidough, which evolves into Dachsbun at level 26.
Meanwhile, even more Fairy-types begin to pop up later in the game, such as Tinkaton. Trainers may also encounter Fairy-type Paradox Pokémon, depending on which version of the game they are playing. Scream Tail and Flutter Mane are exclusive to Pokémon Scarlet, while Iron Valiant is exclusive to Pokémon Violet. By keeping in mind the weaknesses of Fairy-types, you can successfully use any of these Pokémon on your team in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
Thanks to their match-up spread, Fairy-types are useful against multiple boss fights in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Here are some of the most significant fights you should consider using Fairy-types for in these games:
- Bombirdier the Open Sky Titan
- Team Star Dark Crew’s Giacomo
- Team Star Fighting Crew’s Eri
