As we reported about two weeks ago, the Floki Inu memecoin ran an extensive advertising campaign around Dublin for it’s coin.

We had flagged in our article that we expected a lot of complaints, given that there were no risk warnings, and we’re not alone. As reported in The Times, hundreds of members of the public complained about the campaign to the Advertising Standards Authority of Ireland.

How this pans out we’ll have to see, as it’s likely that remnants of the campaign will continue to be driven around the capital for the next couple of weeks until the ads get replaced. However I’d imagine that there will be a ruling (as has happened with trading apps) to ensure that a campaign like this, without any risk warnings that are common on financial trading ads, won’t be able to proceed in the same way again in the future.
